Durham is a lovely city in County Durham in the North-East of England.
The Summer Academy 1999 course Castles and Strongholds of Northumbria lead by John Smith was held there in July.
Places visited on the course included:
Warkworth Castle, Alnwick Castle, Edlingham Castle, Newcastle Castle, Langley Castle, Chipchase Castle, Durham Castle, Prudhoe Castle, Bowes Castle and Raby Castle
I also visited Easby Abbey and Egglestone Abbey on my way to Durham and Aydon Castle on my way home; and Finchale Priory, Tynemouth Priory and Castle, Belsay Hall and Gardens and various parts of Durham during the free time.
For a chronological resumé of my vacation follow these links: SA 1999 Day by Day.
