Fourteen Guinea Pigs and One Rabbit!

All the Guinea Pigs talked about here have now sadly left us. It was such a joy to know them. Not all the older ones are here yet but they will be.

Guinea Pigs - Ladies First

Tulip

[Picture of Brandy] Tulip was a lemon agouti. She was the first of the new batch and wasn't too keen on sharing her home with Bramble when we acquired her some months later. She was very sweet and liked to be tickled under the chin.

Brandy

[Picture of Brandy] Brandy was five years old when she fell asleep for the last time. An American Red Crested pig with a circular tuff on the crown of her head that should have been completely white but wasn't. She had a reputation for being a scatterbrain but it was clear that she was top pig in the girls' cage. The others seemed lost without her at first.

Brandy suffered from some deformity to her rear legs which made movement rather awkward for her but she managed fine for several years. She was usually first to the cage edge when food was on offer!

Angel was the Softest

[Picture of Angel] Angel was a smooth haired Chocolate. She was very soft - quite literally. She squealed as if she was being murdered at the slightest provocation but she was very gentle.

She had a very large swelling on her side which the vet preferred not to touch. It doesn't seem to bother her too much fortunately.

She died February 2000.

Fleur was Angel's Daughter

[Picture of Fleur] Fleur, Angel's daughter, was born March 1996. She is also a Chocolate but her fur is madly disheveled. She has something of a crest on the crown of her head but generally she resembles a rosette. She is the only piggy we have now that will give you a cavy kiss! Affectionately known as Fleurball.

She died in July 2000.

And the Boars

Flash was Angel's Son

[Picture of Flash] Flash, Fleur's brother, was five years old. He was a smooth haired Chocolate with a white crest. He was very soft too and likes to sit on my shoulder when I snuggle him on the settee. He has settled down to a solitary existence after Marmy's death. Then we pamper him rather too much. He loved it!

He developed a nasty open sore on his rear during the Winter which was successfully removed in March 99. He was back to his old self again for two more years after that.

Marmaduke

[Marmy]Marmaduke was a handsome golden boar. He sadly died of a chest infection at a tender young age.

The Very Special Rabbit

Moonlight

[Picture of Moony] Moony died in February 2003 aged nine. He looked a little like a Havana Rex. He was very black on his head, ears, paws and tail. His eyes are ruby red. He was found in a back garden, when quite young, scavenging for food. He became master of our kitchen! He'd eat most things - like cardboard, wooden furniture, plastic of all kinds and carpet. He's eaten the geraniums and then smashed the plant pots.

He wasn't a lap rabbit and won't let me pick him up if he didn't want to be picked up. However, he's like a baby in my arms if he does want a snuggle. He used to be prepared to bite though if you don't co-operate with him. With the arrival of Clover he became more laid back! I could even get him to give me kisses.

He made us very happy and we are so glad to have shared our lives with him. He lies now in our back yard. We think of him often.
